My favorite takeaway from The Let Them Theory was realizing that I genuinely have the power to choose what I do next, regardless of how someone else chooses to treat me. I can stay angry, bitter, or consumed by what happened or I can choose to put that energy back into myself.
It reminds me of an analogy I think about often: if a snake bites you, you don’t spend your time chasing the snake, demanding to know why it bit you or trying to convince it that you didn’t deserve it. You treat the wound and get the poison out. I think there’s something really powerful about realizing that healing is something we choose for ourselves. We may not get to choose what someone does to us, but we do get to choose what we do next.
